There are
many ways to decorate a dorm room! Only in recent years has it been a trend to
have a theme and decoration board all for a dorm room. When my sister and I
chose the same college and knew we were roommates one of the things high on our
list was to plan the dorm room. Our parents thought we were crazy. They told us
when it came to their college experience, they didn’t talk with their roommate,
they brought their own stuff and were all set. For me, the idea of a dorm room
theme came to be what felt most like home. The little feeling of home in a new
place for me was vital.
So the brainstorming began! We knew
the wood in our dorm room was light wood. ( Yes, it was an important fact when
it came to the planning). Andrea was very admitted on not too bright colors for
fear it would be distracting to live amongst. I didn’t want really anything the
color blue although it is my favorite color I didn’t want it to look like an
ocean. We knew we wanted a futon in our room, and the only color it came in was
black. To make sure you are following this blog post, so far the colors are
light wood and black. With black, comes white, so we knew we added it in there
as well! Now for some color. Andrea wanted to follow the more evergreen look
and do deep greens. I love green, but I also wanted our living space to be
bright. We both settled on a baby pink! We were thrilled with the scheme to
follow a subtle but sweet dorm room, with the colors of light wood, black,
white, and baby pink.
Once the colors were picked came the
shopping. I highly recommend to any person looking for dorm room pieces to look
online with the full intent of seeing if the store has the specific item online
and if you find it instore tremendous, but there is always a back up to order
it online. The leading stores that we focused on were Ikea, Target, Bed Bath,
and Beyond and Walmart! We shopped many different days and ordered a lot
online. We watched for deals and tried to get the biggest bang for our buck!
My biggest
advice to anyone who is going dorm shopping is to plan as much ahead of time!
It truly will help when you are in the store!
There may be many deals that come up through the back to school season.
It truly will help when you are in the store! It can be super overwhelming but
enjoy the process. We absolutely love where we live and the calming tone that
it sets.
What was
your dorm room theme if you had one?
