Alyson Hoffman - The Runner

Being physically active growing up was not a problem for me. The sports I was involved in ranged from soccer, cross country, track, and softball. I did many of those sports in the same season. I have also have had a pretty successful running career! I am pleased to say I have run 4 ½ marathons! Many teens my age-let alone many adults-cannot imagine training for a half-marathon.  My twin sister and I were intrigued and inspired by our aunt, who previously had completed two races herself.  We then decided to run, alongside her, in our first half-marathon, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon in the fall of our freshman year of high school. We ran six days a week and increased our mileage and pace as we progressed.
There were many bumps in the road (literally and figuratively) and days where we didn’t want to run and doubted our abilities.  On October 19, 2014, we accomplished our biggest goal in life at that time--completing a half-marathon, finishing in a little over two hours and thirty minutes. No words can describe the feeling of exhilaration and satisfaction in crossing the finish line. We loved that experience and decided to run the next year and ended up running a half each year of high school. I  run for fun, and it helps both my body and mind. I encourage you to evaluate your situation and see how you can improve your life by adding even a little bit of physical exercise. Everyone can start somewhere also if there isn’t an end goal in mind.

Can I be Klondike?

Being Klondike, the mascot here at Ohio Northern, is a big deal! It is a huge reveal when the persons who are Klondike graduate or end their Klondike careers. I have heard and have seen many pictures of the head reveal, and it is an exciting event for everyone. I happen to have a background as a mascot, and the hope to be Klondike one day is there. In my senior year of high school, no one was able to be our high school's mascot, Sparty the Spartan. There was one basketball game, and the opposing school had brought their mascot the Colt. I turned to my sister and our best friend Grace and said where's Sparty? I then ran over to my principal, who is a dear family friend to ask where Sparty was and that I wanted to be Sparty for the game. He laughed, and we went to get the outfit. This was a spur of the moment, but knowing how fun I am, this wasn't surprising to many. Let me preface that the costume had just been dry cleaned, and I am 5'3. The outfit was a little bit b...

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

For my final blog post, I had this big thank you letter written to Aggie but accidentally deleted it. So now I am going to write something a little bit more exciting! The holidays!!! December has a lot of fun days coming up!!   For starters it is Christmastime so listening to Christmas music is one of my favorite things to do in the car and studying for exams. During December there are a few other celebrations. My twin, Andrea and I are celebrating our 21 st birthday on Dec.20 and my mom’s birthday is Dec.26! Those will be great celebrations with a lot of adult beverages.   I am a huge fan of traditions or yearly events especially during the holiday season. One of the things my family does is drive around the neighborhood or a light display and see all the pretty lights and set ups. I went with Zach and a couple of friends this past weekend to the Upper Sandusky lights! They did not disappoint. I am looking forward to seeing new light displays in our new neighborhoo...

So Long Spooky Season

So Long Spooky Season             This past weekend was Halloween!! Friday night was a girls night! A group of friends and I went to two events on campus. The first was called A Haunted Walk sponsored by the student planning committee (SPC). This occurred out by the sand volleyball courts and we walked along the green monsters with spooky stores shared along the way. It was a good event, I would have loved to see it even more interactive but happy it was short as it was cold and rainy. The second event was Haunted Hill Sponsored by a Fraternity and History group on campus. It was a little spooky if I’m being honest. Friday night was a great time!             On Saturday My boyfriend Zach and I had a great time! We worked Admissions in the morning, then I went to the ONU volleyball game (which ONU won) and then I took a nap. Zach was on call so he stayed in his ...
