I have had the opportunity to be in a position to help my
community and school with socializing events! Growing up within the
surroundings of many different types of event planners, I have learned the Do’s
and Don’ts when it comes to planning and executing a successful event. Make
sure the invites are sent out at least a month in advance and make sure the
forks are on the right side of the plates are just a few average reminders.
Older generations may not think about the social or social media side of events,
but this can launch the event and make it even better.
There are many things on the social media front that I know
and have learned a lot about. For instance, make sure that your grammar is
correct and remember you are posting on behalf of the company or group. I had
the opportunity to have an internship with the West Ohio Annual Conference in
their communications department and got to witness how social media is run and
controlled through an organization. Part of the experience was to watch the
social media feed and make sure the viewers of the conference and the whole
conference community were not only enjoying the content but re-sharing and
commenting along. That was a fantastic experience.
I also was the social media coordinator for my employer and
a local ice cream store in Marion. I was in charge of live social media
coverage and real-time posting on Facebook. For precisely the Jer-Zee Drive-In,
many of the Facebook friends lived out of town but always wanted to be
connected back to the establishment. As the social media coordinator, I knew
that I was not only showing our event to the Marion community but to the
Jer-Zee community that represents a large family spread out in many
generations.
Social media is something that can help many events! How
would you use social media in the events that you plan?
