There
are many ways that you can start your journey of training for a half marathon.
When my sister, dad and I began to look at the different resources to use, we
decided that seeking a trainer was the best option. When we were looking for
trainers around us, we knew of a family friend that was more specifically an
endurance trainer and that’s what we needed to build upon. We had monthly
checked in’s at the beginning of our training to strengthen our muscles. At
that time, as well, we were running small amounts to build up our distance.
After the first couple of months, we stopped the lifting portion of the
training and gradually built up our mileage. This was not an easy thing to do.
There were many times where we did not want to run and the runs that we were
completing never seemed to end. Any runner who has run a half marathon or even
a full will tell you the first time you train it will be a game against your
mind telling yourself that you can not run 6 miles, for example. Once we got
over the longer mile markers and completed our final training run of 10 miles,
we felt that we could complete 13.1. We only ran 10 miles and concluded that
the weekend before the race. We had built up an endurance that started in
February of 2015 and lasted up to the race in October of 2015. Training isn’t
something that can be done overnight. It takes time both for you and your body
to adjust. I encourage you to look more into this article, especially if you
are considering running a half. The full marathon training is similar but also
takes quite a long time to build up. Do you think you could run a half marathon?
Being Klondike, the mascot here at Ohio Northern, is a big deal! It is a huge reveal when the persons who are Klondike graduate or end their Klondike careers. I have heard and have seen many pictures of the head reveal, and it is an exciting event for everyone. I happen to have a background as a mascot, and the hope to be Klondike one day is there. In my senior year of high school, no one was able to be our high school's mascot, Sparty the Spartan. There was one basketball game, and the opposing school had brought their mascot the Colt. I turned to my sister and our best friend Grace and said where's Sparty? I then ran over to my principal, who is a dear family friend to ask where Sparty was and that I wanted to be Sparty for the game. He laughed, and we went to get the outfit. This was a spur of the moment, but knowing how fun I am, this wasn't surprising to many. Let me preface that the costume had just been dry cleaned, and I am 5'3. The outfit was a little bit b...
This is cool to hear how you trained for your half marathon. My mom has always told me to train for one because I love running, but I don't know if I like it that much and could handle it. I feel like it's a lot fo mental strength and when it comes to sports, mental strength is not my strong suit. Good for you for training and completing the half marathon!
