Social Media Principles Wrap Up Part 2

This is a class I think all public relations students should take! Social media is a job. It isn’t as easy as outsiders think! This class is a great tool to know about and to have in your back pocket even if you do not want to do the social media track. There are many aspects, apps and advice when it comes to using social media. This class helped with all of it. The elements that are involved in anything social media come from the posts, the audience, the analytics, the message, the brand voice, the expression of the information and if the post is eye-catching! And there are many more aspects that are involved! Many applications are classified as social media! Many of which you might not know! You have the well-known Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest, but did you know YouTube, WhatsApp, Tumbler and Tik Tok are social media platforms as well! The advice that we learned in our class will stay with me for the rest of my life and throughout my career! Will the ...

Christmas Break

Christmas Break is so close I can touch it!! Being a college student versus a high school student, the break is longer and the stress of homework is not looming over us. The needed break is felt even more as a college student.  This semester, I do not have any exams, but I did have papers and projects to finish! I am very excited for Christmas Break as it will be a great time both relaxing and spending time with friends and family. Andrea and I’s birthday is the 20th, so we will start to break by celebrating turning 19. On Christmas Eve, I will be at my church for most of the evening. Being a preacher’s kid, my favorite memories are on Christmas Eve. My family and church staff order pizza between the services and Andrea and I are anxiously awaiting to get our new pajamas on!  As a family, we will celebrate Christmas at our house this year! There isn’t anything specific that I have asked Santa this year but my mom, sister and I are looking at two puggles to get! We shall see h...

Next Semester as a Polar Bear

As the first semester of college is wrapping up, I am so glad I have taken the classes I have this semester and have received the many opportunities that I have. A class I took this semester that I would recommend to anyone would be Interpersonal Communications with Mark Cruea. The material and class layout are both functional and you learn a lot. I am very excited for my classes next semester. Public Relations at Ohio Northern moved from the College of Arts and Sciences to the College of Business. With this switch, I have chosen to take the business route and will be starting my business classes! The classes I am taking next semester are Statistics, University Singers, Intro to Marketing, PR Writing, Ethical Leadership and PC applications. There are many different ways others would view this schedule, but I am excited! Stats will challenge me a little bit, but it will be a good challenge. University Singers will always be on my schedule! Singing in a choir is something I enjoy and I ...

Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving break as a college student is very different from being in high school. Being a college student over break is even better! In high school, it is only a few short days off and you are already home with your friends and family. In college, there is a week and you can go back home and visit with friends and family you haven’t seen for a while and that helped me to appreciate the time even more. This Thanksgiving break was exciting! Monday, we started to decorate for Christmas and were relaxing as well! On Tuesday, my mom hit a deer with her car when she was headed to work. She was okay, but the car is a little bent and smashed. I got to watch and learn from my dad on how to file an insurance claim. Adulting, am I right?!? Wednesday, we also finished up decorating and upon moving boxes, we found a nest that squirrels had made in our attic. Also, on Wednesday, we realized our pipes were backed up and there were a few inches of water in our basement! Our friends and family hav...

Social Media PRinciples Wrap Up Part 1

Many people in my life don’t understand what public relations is, let alone that social media is an actual job. Throughout this class, I have learned that social media is, in fact, a full-time job. This blog post will coincide with a blog post next week talking about the class overall. In this first blog post, I am highlighting what I have learned throughout the last textbook. There were many things that I knew starting the last book of the class, but there were many things that I learned from the second/last textbook we used. The first overall theme that I learned was ANALYTICS! To measure all of the social media, there are different platforms and ways of evaluating each individual post. From how many likes and shares to is our branding tactic reaching the audience as efficiently as possible. There is always work or measuring to be done when looking at social media. The second overall theme that I learned was it is more digital media than textile media. In every post, there will be ...

Real or Fake Christmas Tree

It’s that time of year, if you have not already decorated for Christmas, you probably are preparing to sooner rather than later! There is an essential part of decorating that many, if not most, have in their home, and that is the beloved tree. There has been a debate through many generations and different families all around the issue of buying a real tree or a fake tree. For this, I have recruited an article from the Readers Digest, “According to the  National Christmas Tree Association  last year, 27.4 million American households went for real trees and 18.6 million went for fake. Some people avoid real trees, due to allergies, but the choice could be more complicated for the rest of the population.” As the statistics show, more people are cutting down their tree than unboxing their tree.  “In the National Christmas Tree Association survey, people reported paying more for plastic trees than natural, but if you use it year after year, you’ll end up saving money with ...
