Many people in my life don’t understand what public relations is, let alone that social media is an actual job. Throughout this class, I have learned that social media is, in fact, a full-time job. This blog post will coincide with a blog post next week talking about the class overall. In this first blog post, I am highlighting what I have learned throughout the last textbook. There were many things that I knew starting the last book of the class, but there were many things that I learned from the second/last textbook we used.
The first overall theme that I learned was ANALYTICS! To measure all of the social media, there are different platforms and ways of evaluating each individual post. From how many likes and shares to is our branding tactic reaching the audience as efficiently as possible. There is always work or measuring to be done when looking at social media.
The second overall theme that I learned was it is more digital media than textile media. In every post, there will be text information, but the pictures and the videos are what are eye-catching.
The third theme that I learned was there is always room to improve your branding and there are still questions to ask to double-check that everything is going in the right direction. I think questioning others and reflecting on what has worked and hasn’t worked in the past is helpful!
What did you like about the textbook? Were you familiar with anything before the class?

I had no idea that analytics would be so important in the world of social media. I thought it was more of a "fun" job because it's social media and all of us know what we're doing. Boy was I wrong. It may not be my favorite thing, but so much can be learned from it that would only help my company or brand to improve. I liked this textbook and have learned a lot from it. It provided the "how" and "what" that makes up the social media strategies we use.
