It’s that time of year, if you have not already decorated for Christmas, you probably are preparing to sooner rather than later! There is an essential part of decorating that many, if not most, have in their home, and that is the beloved tree. There has been a debate through many generations and different families all around the issue of buying a real tree or a fake tree. For this, I have recruited an article from the Readers Digest, “According to the National Christmas Tree Association last year, 27.4 million American households went for real trees and 18.6 million went for fake. Some people avoid real trees, due to allergies, but the choice could be more complicated for the rest of the population.” As the statistics show, more people are cutting down their tree than unboxing their tree.
“In the National Christmas Tree Association survey, people reported paying more for plastic trees than natural, but if you use it year after year, you’ll end up saving money with a fake in the long run. When you do haul out that fake tree, you won’t end up with pine needles all over the place, or bring in microscopic mold spores that could trigger allergic reactions in some people. Plus, the water feeding a real tree probably contains preservative that could make your pet sick if it takes a drink from the tree stand. Then again, by sticking with artificial, you’ll miss out on that lovely pine smell that a real Christmas tree lets off, not to mention the fun of heading to a tree farm to cut your own. So up to you: Light a pine-scented candle while you decorate your fake tree, or gather your family for a trip to the farm. “
Speaking on behalf of personal experience, I have only grown up with artificial trees and 3 to be exact. While questioning my parents on why our family doesn’t have a real tree, they explained that the easy setup and little to no maintenance of a fake tree is the reason. My dad did mention that he grew up having a real tree.
Do you have a fake or real tree?
I have always had a fake tree. The tree has lasted for at least 21 years because we've never had a different one since I've bean alive. I think we have a fake tree because a lot of people in my family has allergies and we would probably sneeze our head off before Christmas even got here. I will probably have a fake tree in my house when I get one just because I am very allergic and it is easier to take care of, but I always love seeing the pictures of families going to cut down their real tree.
ReplyDeleteMy family just switched over to having a fake tree this year! It's been really nice so far that we don't have to remember to water it, but I must admit the smell of a real tree in your house is something I already miss. It's a great way to feel in the Christmas spirit the whole time you have the house decorated! I'm really surprised that so many people still get a real one, it feels like everyone talks about having a fake tree.
