Homecoming Week 2021

It’s the time of year where Ada turns orange and black and the parade marches down Main Street. This year is extraordinary as ONU is celebrating its 150th birthday!! 150 years of “Go Bears”!! With COVID-19, there was not a parade last year, so this will be my third homecoming, but my second parade and I am pumped! During the parade, I will be helping with the alumni office and will be on the parade route. After the parade, I will be helping the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)’s at the activities tent then headed to the football game. My boyfriend Zach is on the homecoming court with one of his good pharmacy friends, so I will be cheering them on with my pom-poms. There are many other events throughout the weekend as well. When looking at the Ohio Northern website, it says this about the other public events, which will include: • Heterick Memorial Library will host “Home Sweet Home: Engaging with Our ONU History” Oct. 2. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the librar...

H2O is the way to go

When creating my new years' resolutions for 2021, I was trying to make goals that would help me be a better person for others and feel better inside and out. My goals were not extravagant but some daily changes I could make to enhance myself. One of the most significant resolutions I put into place was giving up pop. Before this resolution, I would have several glasses/cans of Sprite in a day. I was mainly drinking it for the taste as Sprite does not have caffeine. I would also occasionally have a Dr Pepper but tried to stray away from brown drinks. I was not a huge Diet Coke or Mountain Dew fan as those drinks would give me a crazy amount of energy but would be followed up by a crash of my energy. This resolution was also easy to begin as I had to quit pop in December as I had my wisdom teeth taken out and could only have water or milk.  As of Sept. 21, 2021, I have gone 294 days without drinking a pop. I pride myself on this as I usually do not stick with resolu...

Fall Bucket List

Every season is a reason to set goals and get out of the house to enjoy the nature around you. The season of fall is no exception. With COVID-19 taking away a traditional fall last year, my mission is to create a bucket list for my boyfriend Zach and me to complete. On our list is the following; Watch an Ada sunset, picnic, stargaze on the tundra or football field, find a small store/ mall, find a new antique mall, paint night, get tickets for Beauty and the Beast, Go to Seuters pumpkin patch and carve a pumpkin, make our own pizza night, ONU fall football games, indoor movie night, drive-in movie, bowling alley, Lulus for breakfast, DIY caramel apples, dinner at the Inn, build a fort, fall photoshoot and pull a fun all-nighter. We will take a selfie during each bucket list item, so after we have done everything, we can create a scrapbook or a digital book with all the memories in one location. When you and your friends create a bucket list for the fall, I suggest you start resea...

Fall Football

Fall is my favorite time of year, the weather gets cooler, the pumpkin spice is stocked and you can hear the snap of a football. This blog is going to be all about fall football. Let us start with a brief history of College Football The first college football game was played in 1869 between Rutgers University and the College of New Jersey (now known as Princeton University). The first college football rules were written Nov. 23, 1876, in Springfield, Massachusetts , by representatives from Columbia, Harvard, Princeton and Yale. The first college football game on the radio was the contest between West Virginia University and Pittsburgh University Oct. 8, 1921, broadcast on Pittsburgh radio station KDKA-AM. The first college football game on TV was between Fordham University and Waynesburg University on Sept. 30, 1939. The game was broadcast by NBC and aired on W2XBS. I am a college football girl and have been keeping track of teams and schedules since I was little. I am a bi...

Summer Internship 2021

This past summer, I had an internship experience with Fahlgren Mortine as their client engagement intern. For those who do not know, Fahlgren Mortine is an integrated communications company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio with offices all across the U.S. What matters most to this company is their clients, their people and the communities they help. I first heard of this opportunity from a recent graduate and mentor, Ashley Dentinger. She sent me the application, and my PR professor Dr. Alisa Agozzino helped me prepare encouraged me to apply.  I had applied in February 2021 and heard shortly after that I got the position. This was a great application experience and I felt supported throughout the process. I was very happy to have my summer plans scheduled before I had to rush and find something last minute.   I began my internship at the beginning of June and finished the internship in early August. Since the agency was working all remotely, my internship was also remote....
