Fall is my favorite time of year, the weather gets cooler, the pumpkin spice is stocked and you can hear the snap of a football. This blog is going to be all about fall football. Let us start with a brief history of College Football The first college football game was played in 1869 between Rutgers University and the College of New Jersey (now known as Princeton University). The first college football rules were written Nov. 23, 1876, in Springfield, Massachusetts , by representatives from Columbia, Harvard, Princeton and Yale. The first college football game on the radio was the contest between West Virginia University and Pittsburgh University Oct. 8, 1921, broadcast on Pittsburgh radio station KDKA-AM. The first college football game on TV was between Fordham University and Waynesburg University on Sept. 30, 1939. The game was broadcast by NBC and aired on W2XBS.
I am a college football girl and have been keeping track of
teams and schedules since I was little. I am a big Ohio State fan and I have
loved Ohio Northern’s team ever since starting my journey here at ONU. My
boyfriend Zach is a big Notre Dame fan so I watch those games as well. My
family and Zach have never been huge National Football League fans but we will
turn on the tv and watch on a Sunday night.
This past week was week one of college football was on!
Ohio State played Minnesota Thursday night and won with a 45-31 score. Ohio
Northern played Dennison this past Saturday and won with a 30-10 score. Notre
Dame had a nail-biting game going into overtime with a 41 -38 win over Florida
St. Even though it is the first week, I think Ohio State will make it to the
playoffs this year. They seem like a solid team and can only gain momentum
moving forward.
Week two match ups are Ohio State versus Oregon Saturday at
Noon. Ohio Northern vs.
Muskingum Saturday at 7p.m. And Notre Dame versus Toledo Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
One additional fact about myself is I am a huge fan of
marching bands so seeing them perform at halftime or during a rally is a bonus!
Are you a college football fan or NFL? Who do you cheer
for? Do you think Ohio State will be in the playoffs this year? Leave your
comments below!
Yeah I'm a big college football fan. I'm from Toledo so I grew up going to all the games. This Saturday for that matchup against Notre Dame I'm rooting against them obviously haha. Even though I'm form Ohio I'm not a big OSU fan. I'm more of a Michigan supporter than an OSU one. I hope OSU doesn't make the playoffs but they will probably be in it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not too big on football, but I'm definitely a big fan of marching bands! I was in band in high school, so that meant I went to every football game for four years, but I learned absolutely nothing about football, haha. It was a fun time in my life for sure! Glad to see someone else who appreciates the band. :)
