This past summer, I had an internship experience with Fahlgren Mortine as their client engagement intern. For those who do not know, Fahlgren Mortine is an integrated communications company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio with offices all across the U.S. What matters most to this company is their clients, their people and the communities they help. I first heard of this opportunity from a recent graduate and mentor, Ashley Dentinger. She sent me the application, and my PR professor Dr. Alisa Agozzino helped me prepare encouraged me to apply. I had applied in February 2021 and heard shortly after that I got the position. This was a great application experience and I felt supported throughout the process. I was very happy to have my summer plans scheduled before I had to rush and find something last minute.
I began my internship at the beginning of
June and finished the internship in early August. Since the agency was working
all remotely, my internship was also remote. This provided a different scenery
for my first internship, but I was still able to feel their company culture, learn
from my supervisor and other team members. Throughout the internship, I worked on
the following primary projects: Complied media lists, created
social media content and content calendars, wrote competitor analyses, tracked
media placements, influencer research, 24-hour media crisis watch, and complied
projects. When looking at the numbers I helped over 23 total clients and generated
over 1.3 million social media impressions on behalf of 3 clients. I could have
never predicted all that I got to learn and tasks I got to accomplish.
Through this experience, I have learned a lot about the industry,
the profession and myself. I have learned I do like the restaurant, travel and
tourism and the hospitality industry. Helping others have a good time and
enjoying the amazing food and experiences around them fuels my passion. From a
professional perspective, I have realized I do like meeting people face to face,
creating social media content, campaigns and I also like the analytic side and
the media placements to see all the hard work pay off.
Overall, I am very thankful for the opportunity and look forward
to other opportunities that come my way.
What an exciting internship it seems you had! The 1.3 million impressions is something you should be very proud of. I especially enjoyed listening to you speak about your experience at PRSSA. Keep up the amazing work!
